Finally it’s done. What seemed initially a smallish project ended up to be a quite long ordeal. I have to admit that I rushed it at the end. I could have sunk a lot more time into more realistic shaders and tested more on light, camera angles and rendering. But I had enough of it and wanted to jump on other work. Ultimately what made it come together was the REDSHIFT rendering plugin - will do a separate blog post on that.
