To the frontiers

First blogpost.

I have a tendency to start many things but I'm rarely able to finish anything. So this is an experiment to motivate myself to finish what I start.

First project "...it's a ship!" :)

a Spaceship, or more accurately a cargo spaceship.

I've had this idea of doing some sort of a space faring cargo ship for a very long time. To my astonishment I made the first sketches in 2016. This is one of the reasons for this blog experiment.

Some of the ideas I had then.

And a 3D blockout of the ship now.

Structurally the ship consists of a main support truss structure that will hold the cargo containers. At the back of the main support structure will have the main engines and in front some sort of a sensor array for communications. The sphere arrays are supposed to be fuel pods and at the back extending vertically are radiator arrays to dissipate excess heat. The ship would be completely autonomous so no need for crew compartments or life support systems.
The ship measures about 145 m in length and houses 56 containers. Compared to the largest sea faring https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSC_G%C3%BCls%C3%BCn ship, that is 400 m long and houses 27756 containers, it’s small but it’s a start. Start small, they say :D

Anyway the idea is to make a cool looking spaceship model and get some nice looking renders. After that I would like to do a short video. Probably feeling overly optimistic about the video stuff...will see.

I more or less have modeled the fuel tank of the ship so 95% is still left to do. So next up - cargo containers.
